Frequently Asked Questions

Over the years, I’ve been asked hundreds of questions by my customers. Here are my answers to some of the most commonly asked, from pricing to furniture to carpet removal.

(And if you have a question that isn’t answered here—send me an email at jack@crescentflooring.co.uk, and I’ll be happy to help.)

Q: Do carpet fitters move furniture?

A: Yes, many carpet fitters, including our team, offer the service of moving furniture out of the way before starting the carpet installation. However, this is typically an additional service and may incur extra costs. It's always best to discuss your specific needs when you book the job.

Q: Can carpet fitters work around furniture?

A: While it is possible to work around furniture, it's not recommended for a few reasons. Working around furniture can lead to an uneven installation and makes it difficult to properly stretch the carpet. For the best results, the room should be as empty as possible.

Q: Can carpet fitters work around a bed?

A: Technically yes, but working around a bed makes it very difficult to achieve a professional finish. It's advisable to remove the bed from the room to ensure a smooth and taut carpet installation. If removing the bed isn't an option, please discuss this with us beforehand so we can find the best solution.

Q: Do carpet fitters remove old carpet?

A: Yes, we offer removal of old carpet as part of our services. This usually includes taking up the old carpet and disposing of it responsibly. This is generally an additional service and will be outlined in the quote.

Q: Do carpet fitters remove old grippers?

A: We can remove old grippers if they are damaged or unsuitable for the new carpet. If the existing grippers are in good condition, we usually recommend keeping them to help save on costs.

Q: Do carpet fitters remove doors?

A: Typically, we will remove doors from their hinges to fit the carpet and rehang them afterwards. This ensures a more accurate and efficient installation process.

Q: Do carpet fitters trim doors?

A: Yes, if a new carpet is thicker than the old one, doors may need to be trimmed at the bottom to allow for proper clearance. This is an additional service and will be included in the quote if required.

Q: Do you tip carpet fitters?

A: Tipping is not a standard practice in the UK for carpet fitters, but if you feel the service has been exceptional, a tip is always appreciated. It's completely at your discretion.

Q: How long do carpet fitters take?

A: The length of time needed to fit a carpet varies depending on several factors, such as room size, furniture removal, and complexity of the job. On average, fitting carpet in a standard room can take anywhere from 2 to 4 hours. Larger or more complex jobs will take longer.

Q: Are carpet fitters insured?

A: Yes, our team of carpet fitters is fully insured to give you peace of mind during the installation process. We take every precaution to ensure a smooth and safe job, but it's good to know that insurance is in place for any unforeseen circumstances.

Q: Do you provide underlay services?

A: Absolutely, we can supply and fit underlay as part of the carpet installation process. The type and quality of underlay you need will depend on the specific requirements of your flooring and we can advise you on this during the quote process.

Q: Is there a warranty on the carpet installation?

A: Yes, we offer a workmanship warranty on all our installations. The length and terms of the warranty can vary depending on the specific job, so please inquire for more details when booking your installation.

Q: Can you fit carpet on stairs and landings?

A: Yes, we have extensive experience in fitting carpets on stairs and landings. These areas usually require special attention and skills due to the complexities of the space. We can certainly accommodate your needs in these areas.

Q: Do you offer carpet disposal and recycling services?

A: Yes, we offer environmentally-friendly disposal and recycling options for your old carpet. Please mention this when booking your installation if you wish to avail of this service, as it may come at an additional cost.

Q: Do you offer weekend and evening installations?

A: We aim to be as flexible as possible and can offer weekend and evening installations to accommodate your schedule. However, these slots are often in high demand, so it's best to book well in advance.

Q: What types of payment do you accept?

A: We accept a variety of payment methods including cash, credit/debit cards, and bank transfers. Please confirm your preferred method of payment when you are arranging the booking.

Q: Can you fit carpets purchased from another supplier?

A: Yes, we can fit carpets purchased from other suppliers, although it's essential that the carpet is of suitable quality for your intended use. Please ensure you have all the necessary materials and accessories ready for the installation.

Q: Do you offer a free quote and measurement service?

A: Yes, we offer a free quote and measurement service to help you understand the full scope and cost of your carpet installation. We can also bring samples during this visit if you haven't yet chosen a carpet.

Q: Can I be in the house while flooring is being installed?

A: Yes, you can certainly be in the house while the flooring is being installed. However, we recommend staying out of the area being worked on for safety reasons and to allow our fitters to complete the job as efficiently as possible. If you have specific concerns or needs, such as pets or young children, please discuss this with us beforehand so we can make appropriate arrangements.
